John Franklin Candy was born in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. He was a Canadian comedy actor known mainly for his work in Hollywood films. He studied at Centennial College and McMaster University. His role in several films, including Tunnel Vision, Find the Lady, The Silent Partner, Stripes, Splash, Cool Runnings, Summer Rental, Spaceballs, The Great Outdoors, Who's Harry Crumb?, Uncle Buck, Only the Lonely, JFK, Once Upon a Crime, Wagons East!, and Canadian Bacon. His role in television, including Coming Up Rosie (TV series), Second City Television (TV sketch comedy show), The Canadian Conspiracy (TV film), The Last Polka (TV film), and Hostage for a Day (TV film, also director).
