About
John Gerard Bruton was born in Dunboyne, Meath, Ireland. He is an Irish Fine Gael politician who served as Taoiseach (Prime Minister) from 1994 to 1997, European Union Ambassador to the United States from 2004 to 2009, Leader of Fine Gael from 1990 to 2001, and Leader of the Opposition from 1990 to 1994 and 1997 to 2001. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Meath constituency from 1969 to 2004. He studied at Clongowes Wood College. He earned a BA degree from the University College, Dublin. He qualified as a barrister from King's Inns, but never went on to practice law. He married to Finola Bruton. They have four children, one son and three daughters.
