Johann Arndt was born in Edderitz, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. He was a German Lutheran theologian who wrote several influential books of devotional Christianity. He studied at Helmstadt, Wittenberg, Strasbourg, and Basel. His principal work, True Christianity, was still popular in Germany in the 1800's, and has been translated into almost all European languages.
