James Otis McCrery III was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, USA. He is an American Republican politician and lawyer. He served as the United States House of Representatives from Louisiana from 1988-2009. He was a ranking member of the House Ways and Means Committee from 2007-2009. He earned a BA degree in English and History from Louisiana Tech University in 1971. He earned a Law degree from Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1975. He joined the law firm of Jackson, Smith & Ford in Leesville, where he worked from 1975-1978.
