Jim Edgar was born in Vinita, Oklahoma, USA. He is an American Republican politician. He served as the 38th Governor of Illinois from 1991 to 1999. He served as Illinois Secretary of State from 1981 to 1991. He was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives in 1976 and re-elected in 1978. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University. He was inducted as a Laureate of The Lincoln Academy of Illinois and awarded the Order of Lincoln by the Governor of Illinois in 1999 in the area of Government.
