Jeffrey Bernard was born in London, England. He was a British journalist, best known for his weekly column "Low Life" in The Spectator magazine. He also notorious for a feckless and chaotic career and life of alcohol abuse. He had gained some notoriety when Keith Waterhouse wrote a play based on his life called Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell starring Peter O' Toole. He studied at Pangbourne College. He wrote a weekly column for the Sporting Life but was sacked in October 1971. He became Racing Correspondent for satirical magazine Private Eye. He was given a column in The Spectator in 1975. He wrote several books include: Low Life, Talking Horses, More Low Life (with Andrew Cameron), Jeffrey Bernard Is Still Unwell, and Reach for the Ground.
