Jean Nouvel was born in Fumel, Lot-et-Garonne, France. He is a French architect. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was a founding member of Mars 1976 and Syndicat de l'Architecture. A number of museums and architectural centres have presented retrospectives of his work. His selected edifices include: Torre Agbar, Barcelona, Spain; One Central Park, Sydney, Australia; 53W53, New York City, USA; 100 Eleventh Avenue, Manhattan, New York City, USA; The Koncerthuset, Copenhagen, Denmark; One New Change, London, UK; Tower 25, Nicosia, Cyprus; Opéra Nouvel, Place de la Comédie, Lyon, France; Cologne Tower, Cologne, Germany; Dentsu Building, Shiodome, Minato, Tokyo, Japan; and Doha Tower, Doha, Qatar. He has obtained a number of prestigious distinctions over the course of his career, including the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, the Wolf Prize in Arts in 2005 and the Pritzker Prize in 2008.
