Jean-Marie Le Pen was born in La Trinité-sur-Mer, Brittany, France. He is a French politician who led the National Front party from its foundation in 1972 until 2011, and a member of the Le Pen political family. He studied political science and law at Panthéon-Assas University. After receiving his law diploma, he enlisted in the Foreign Legion. In 1956, he was elected to the National Assembly as a member of Pierre Poujade's UDCA populist party. He was reelected to the National Assembly as a member of the Centre National des Indépendants et Paysans party, led by Antoine Pinay. In 1984, he won a seat in the European Parliament and has been consistently reelected since then. From 1986-1988, he served as Member of the National Assembly as a member of the National Front.
