James Shirley was born in London, England. He was an English playwright. His career of play writing extended from 1625 to the suppression of stage plays by Parliament in 1642. He earned a BA degree from St Catharine's College, Cambridge. He wrote several plays include: The Traitor, Love's Cruelty, The Politician, The Cardinal, Love Tricks, The Wedding, The Witty Fair One, Hyde Park, The Ball, The Gamester, The Lady of Pleasure, The Grateful Servant, The Bird in a Cage, The Young Admiral, The Opportunity, The Duke's Mistress, The Gentleman of Venice, The Imposture, The Sisters, The Triumph of Peace, The Triumph of Beauty, and Honoria and Mammon.
