James Edward Meade was born in Swanage, Dorset, England. He was a British economist and winner of the 1977 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences jointly with the Swedish economist Bertil Ohlin for their "pathbreaking contribution to the theory of international trade and international capital movements." He studied at Malvern College, Oriel College, Oxford, Christ's College, Cambridge, and Trinity College, Cambridge. He served as professor at London School of Economics from 1947-57 and professor of Political Economy at Cambridge University from 1957-68. He wrote several books include: The Rate of Interest in a Progressive State, The Theory of International Economic Policy, Principles of Political Economy, The Intelligent Radical's Guide To Economic Policy, and Liberty, Equality and Efficiency.
