Jaegwon Kim was born in Daegu, South Korea. He is a Korean-born American philosopher who is now an emeritus professor at Brown University. He has also taught at Swarthmore College, Cornell University, the University of Notre Dame, Johns Hopkins University, and for many years at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is best known for his work on mental causation, the mind-body problem and the metaphysics of supervenience and events. He earned a BA degree from Dartmouth College in 1955. He earned his PhD in philosophy from Princeton University. He was president of the American Philosophical Association, Central Division from 1988–1989. He has written several books include: Supervenience and mind, Philosophy of mind, Mind in a physical world, Physicalism, or something near enough, and Essays in the Metaphysics of Mind.
