Patricia Irene (Irina) Dunn was born in Shanghai, China. She is an Australian politician, writer, social activist and documentary filmmaker. She has an Honours Degree in English Literature and Language from the University of Sydney, and a Graduate Diploma in Russian from Macquarie University. She served as a Senator for New South Wales from 1988-1990. She was the executive director of the New South Wales Writers' Centre from 1992 to 2008. She has written several books include: The Writers Guide, A Natural Legacy: Ecology in Australia(with Harry F. Recher and Daniel Lunney. Won- Royal Australian Zoological Society Prize in 1979), The Bioregions of New South Wales(with J. M. Smart), and The Night Before Christmas in the Inner West. She made documentary films, including Frame-Up and Fighting for Peace(International Prize).
