Hugh Richard Bonneville Williams was born in Blackheath, London, England. He is a British actor. He is best known for playing Robert Crawley in the ITV period drama series Downton Abbey from 2010 until 2015(nominated-BAFTA, Emmy and Golden Globe awards). He studied acting at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London. His first professional stage appearance was at the Open Air Theatre, Regent's Park. In 1987, he joined the National Theatre where he appeared in several plays. His role in several films include: Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Notting Hill, Stage Beauty, Underclassman, Glorious 39, Shanghai, The Monuments Men, Paddington, and Viceroy's House. His role in television include: Married for Life, The Cazalets, Tsunami, Twenty Twelve(nominated-BAFTA TV Award for Best Male Performance in a Comedy Programme, British Comedy Award for Best TV Comedy Actor), and W1A(nominated–British Academy Television Award for Best Male Comedy Performance).
