Howard Schwartz was born in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. He is an American author, poet, books editor and Professor of English at the University of Missouri, St. Louis. He has published three books of poetry and several books of fiction. He earned his BA and MA degrees from Washington University, St. Louis. He received honorary doctorate from Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies. He has written several books include: Before You Were Born(won the international Koret Jewish Book Award), Lilith's cave, Miriam’s Tambourine, Gabriel's palace, Next Year in Jerusalem(won National Jewish Book Award for Children's Literature), The diamond tree, Reimagining the Bible, The Day the Rabbi Disappeared(won National Jewish Book Award for Children's Literature), Invisible Kingdoms, Tree of Souls(won the 2005 National Jewish Book Award for Reference), and Leaves from the Garden of Eden.
