Henryk Adam Aleksander Pius Sienkiewicz was born in Wola Okrzejska, Poland. He was a Polish novelist, journalist and the Nobel Prize laureate. He is best remembered for his historical novels, especially for his internationally known best-seller Quo Vadis. This novel contributed to Sienkiewicz's Nobel Prize for literature in 1905. In Poland he is best known for his "Trilogy" of historical novels – With Fire and Sword, The Deluge, and Sir Michael. He wrote for Gazeta Polska and Niwa, under the pen name "Litwos". In 1873 he began writing a column, "Bez tytułu", in The Polish Gazette; in 1874 a column, "Sprawy bieżące" for Niwa; and in 1875 the column, "Chwila obecna". He wrote other novels include: The Knights of the Cross, In Desert and Wilderness, Fire in the Steppe, Without Dogma, Children of the Soil, and On the Field of Glory.
