Henry W. Kendall was born in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He was an American particle physicist who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1990 jointly with Jerome Isaac Friedman and Richard E. Taylor "for their pioneering investigations concerning deep inelastic scattering of electrons on protons and bound neutrons, which have been of essential importance for the development of the quark model in particle physics." He earned a B.A. degree in Mathematics from Amherst College in 1950. He obtained his Ph.D. in Nuclear and Atomic Physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1954. He then spent then next two years as a postdoctoral fellow at Brookhaven National Laboratory. He served as a professor of physics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1967-91. He wrote several books include: Energy Strategies, The Fallacy of Star Wars, and A Distant Light.
