Harold Edward Stassen was born in West St. Paul, Minnesota, USA. He was an American politician and lawyer. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota and law degree from the University of Minnesota law school in 1929. He was the 25th Governor of Minnesota from 1939 to 1943. After service in World War II, he was president of the University of Pennsylvania from 1948 to 1953. He was a leading candidate for the Republican nomination for President of the United States, considered for a time to be the front-runner. He attempted to run for president in the 1940, 1944, 1948, 1952, 1964, 1968, 1980, 1984, 1988, and 1992 elections.
