Gro Harlem Brundtland was born inĀ Oslo, Norway. She is a Norwegian politician and physician who served three terms as Prime Minister of Norway and as Director-General of the World Health Organization from 1998 to 2003. She was Norwegian Minister for Environmental Affairs from 1974 to 1979. From 1981 to 1992 she was leader of the Labour Party. She served as a UN Special Envoy on Climate Change from 2007. She is also deputy chair of The Elders. She graduated with a medical degree, a cand.med. from the University of Oslo in 1963. She took her master's degree as a Master of Public Health at Harvard University in 1965. From 1966 to 1969, she worked as a physician at the Directorate of Health, and from 1969 she worked as a doctor in Oslo's public school health service. She received Indira Gandhi Prize in 1988, Charlemagne Prize in 1994, and Tang Prize in 2014.
