A specialist in the changing role of women in society, Dr. Baruch was the author of several books, including ''Gender and Stress,'' ''The Competent Woman'' and ''Lifeprints.'' She was also co-author of a study that concluded that today's mature women feel increased self-esteem and confidence. Dr. Baruch, who earned her doctorate at Bryn Mawr College.
