Elwood Gordon Gee was born in Vernal, Utah, USA. He is an American academic. He graduated with a B.A. in history in 1968. He earned a J.D. from Columbia University Law School in 1971 and an Ed.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University in 1972. He accepted a position as professor and associate dean at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He became dean and professor at West Virginia University's law school in 1979. He was president of West Virginia University from 1981 to 1985. He was president of the University of Colorado from 1985 to 1990. He was president of Ohio State University from 1990 to 1998. He was president of Brown University from 1998 to 2000. He was chancellor of Vanderbilt University from 2001 to 2007. He was president of Ohio State University from 2007 to 2013(second term). He is currently serving his second term as President of West Virginia University.
