George Smith Lindsey was born in Fairfield, Alabama, USA. He was an American character actor and comedian, best known for his role as Goober Pyle on The Andy Griffith Show, Mayberry R.F.D. and his subsequent tenure on Hee-Haw. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Florence State College in Florence in 1952. His role in several films include: Ensign Pulver, The Aristocats, Snowball Express, Charley and the Angel, Treasure of Matecumbe, Take This Job and Shove It, and Cannonball Run II.
