George Arliss was born in London, England. He was an English actor who found success in the United States. In 1930, he became the first Britsh actor to win an Academy Award for his role as British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli in the 1929 historical film Disraeli. He was educated at Harrow. His role in several films include: The Devil, The Green Goddess, The Man Who Played God, The Working Man, The House of Rothschild, The Millionaire, A Successful Calamity, and Doctor Syn.
