Frank Jennings Tipler was born in Andalusia, Alabama, USA. He is a mathematical physicist and cosmologist. He is also known for his theories on the Tipler cylinder time machine. He completed a bachelor of science degree in physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1976 he completed his PhD from the University of Maryland. He was an Associate Professor in mathematical physics in 1981, and a full Professor in 1987 at Tulane University.
