Francis Macdonald Cornford was born in Eastbourne, UK. He was an English poet and professor. He was educated at St Paul's School and Trinity College, Cambridge. He became Laurence Professor of Ancient Philosophy in 1931 and was elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 1937. He wrote several books include: Before and After Socrates, Thucydides Mythistoricus, The Unwritten Philosophy and Other Essays, The Laws of Motion in Ancient Thought, and The Origin of Attic Comedy.
