Eric Eustace Williams was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. He was a Trinidadian historian, politician, and writer. He served as the first Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago from 1962 until his death in 1981. He was also a noted Caribbean historian, and is widely regarded as "The Father of The Nation." In 1935, he received first-class honours for his B.A. in history from St Catherine's College, Oxford University. In 1938, he went on to obtain his doctorate from St Catherine's College, Oxford University. He wrote several books include: The Negro in the Caribbean, Capitalism and Slavery, History of the People of Trinidad and Tobago, British Historians and the West Indies, and From Columbus to Castro: The History of the Caribbean, 1492–1969.
