Delia Smith was born in Woking, Surrey, England. She is an English chef, writer, and television presenter, known for teaching basic cookery skills in a no-nonsense style. She is the UK's best-selling cookery writer, with more than 21 million copies sold. In the 2009 Birthday Honours, she was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire. In 1996, Smith was awarded an honorary degree by Nottingham University.
