Curtis Lee Hanson was born in Reno, Nevada. He is an American film director, producer and screenwriter. He wrote and directed his feature Sweet Kill in 1973, then in 1978 wrote and produced The Silent Partner, starring Elliott Gould and Christopher Plummer. His directing work includes the psychological thriller The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, the neo-noir crime film L.A. Confidential, the comedy Wonder Boys, the hip-hop biopic 8 Mile, and the romantic comedy-drama In Her Shoes. He won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 1997, for co-writing L.A. Confidential alongside Brian Helgeland.
