About
Boltanski was born in Paris of mixed Catholic and Jewish heritage. Having no formal art education, he began painting in 1958. He first came to public attention in 1960 with a few short films and the publication of several notebooks. A characteristic feature of both works is the ambiguity between real and fictional human experience.
