Carmel Snow was born in Dalkey, Ireland. She was the editor of the American edition of Harper's Bazaar from 1934 to 1958 and, after her retirement, the chairman of the magazine's editorial board. Nevertheless, Snow was the first American editor to publish Cartier-Bresson's photographs in a magazine, and Henri would go on to describe Snow as being ‘magic’ to work with.
