Askhari Johnson Hodari is a former assistant professor of African-American Studies at UAB and co-author of The African Book of Names and Lifelines: The Black Book of Proverbs. Hodari has a bachelor's degree from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia and completed a Ph.D. in Psychology from Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1999. She has worked as a journalist, researcher and instructor in Black History topics. Her lifelong interest in African names resulted in her first book, compiled with Jamaican writing partner Yvonne McCalla Sobers.
