Arthur Asher Miller was born in Harlem, New York City. He was an American playwright, essayist and prominent figure in twentieth-century American theatre. Among his plays are All My Sons, Death of a Salesman, The Crucible and A View from the Bridge. He also wrote the screenplay for the film The Misfits. During this time, he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama; testified before the House Un-American Activities Committee; and was married to Marilyn Monroe. He received the Prince of Asturias Award in 2002 and Jerusalem Prize in 2003. At the University of Michigan, Miller first majored in journalism and worked as a reporter and night editor for the student paper, the Michigan Daily. Miller wrote The Man Who Had All the Luck, which was produced in New Jersey in 1940 and won the Theatre Guild's National Award.
