Alain Marie Juppé is a French politician who was President of the political party Union for a Popular Movement from 2002 to 2004. He served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2011 to 2012. He also served as Prime Minister of France from 1995 to 1997 under President Jacques Chirac and the Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs from 2010 to 2011. He had previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1993 to 1995, and as Minister of the Budget and Spokesman for the Government from 1986 to 1988. He served briefly as Minister of State for Ecology and Sustainable Development in 2007, but resigned in June 2007 after failing in his bid to be re-elected in the 2007 legislative election. He remains the Mayor of Bordeaux. On 10 May 2012 Juppé along with the rest of the cabinet, including Prime minister François Fillon quit following the defeat of President Nicolas Sarkozy in the presidential election. As a result a new cabinet was appointed by François Hollande after he was sworn in as President and Laurent Fabius succeeded him as foreign minister.
