Jean Baptiste Alphonse Karr was born in Paris, France. He was a French critic, journalist and novelist. He educated at the Collège Bourbon, became a teacher there. He wrote several novels include: Sous les Tilleuls, Une heure trop tard, Vendredi soir, Le chemin le plus court, Geneviève, Voyage autour de mon jardin, Feu Bressier, Fort en thème, Les Soirés de Sainte-Adresse, Histoires Normandes, Au bord de la mer, Une poignee de verites, and Livre de bord. In 1839, he became editor of Le Figaro, to which he had been a constant contributor; and he also started a monthly journal, Les Guêpes, of a keenly satirical tone, a publication which brought him the reputation of a somewhat bitter wit. In 1848 he founded Le Journal.
