James Edwin Otto was born in Wausau, Wisconsin, USA. He is a former professional American football center for the Oakland Raiders of the American Football League and National Football League. He studied at the University of Miami. In addition to playing offensive center at the University of Miami, he also played linebacker on defense. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1980. He was elected to the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998. He is the author of book, entitled Jim Otto: The Pain of Glory (memoir).
