The scientist does not study nature because it is useful to do so. He studies it because he takes pleasure in it, and he takes pleasure in it because it is beautiful.
Henri Poincare Quotes
The scientist does not study nature because it is useful; he studies it because he delights in it, and he delights in it because it is beautiful.

Jules Henri Poincaré was born in Nancy, France. He was a French mathematician, physicist, engineer and philosopher. As a mathematician and physicist, he made many original fundamental contributions to pure and applied mathematics, mathematical physics, and celestial mechanics. He was responsible for formulating the Poincaré conjecture, which was one of the most famous unsolved problems in mathematics until it was solved in 2002–2003. In his research on the three-body problem, he became the first person to discover a chaotic deterministic system which laid the foundations of modern chaos theory. He is also considered to be one of the founders of the field of topology. He graduated from the Lycée in 1871 with a bachelor's degree in letters and sciences. He entered the École Polytechnique in 1873 and graduated in 1875. He received the degree of ordinary mining engineer from the École des Mines in 1879.
