Ingrid Betancourt Pulecio was born in Bogotá, Colombia. She is a Colombian politician, political scientist
and anti-corruption activist. She served as a senator from 1998 to 2002, and, while running for president in the latter year, she was kidnapped. She studied at the Institute for Political Studies and in 1983 married Fabrice Delloye, a French diplomat. In the mid-1990s, Betancourt and Delloye divorced. She returned to Colombia and became advisor to the Minister of Finance and later to the Minister of Foreign Trade. In 1994, she was elected to the House of Representatives on an anti-corruption ticket. She married Colombian advertising executive Juan Carlos Lecompte in 1997. Their marriage ended soon after her 2008 rescue. In 2008, she received the Concord Prince of Asturias Award. She is currently a doctoral student in theology at Harris Manchester College, Oxford. She has written several books include: Even Silence Has an End, Until Death Do Us Part, and The Blue Line(novel).
