Gordon "Gordie" Howe was born in Floral, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was a Canadian retired professional ice hockey player who played for the Detroit Red Wings and Hartford Whalers of the National Hockey League, and the Houston Aeros and New England Whalers in the World Hockey Association. Nicknamed "Mr. Hockey", he is considered the most complete player to ever play the game and one of the greatest ice hockey players of all time. He won the Stanley Cup with the Red Wings four times, won six Hart Trophies as the league's most valuable player, and won six Art Ross Trophies as the leading scorer. He retired in 1971 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame the next year. He was the inaugural recipient of the NHL Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.
