David Robert Alexander Thomson was born in British colonial India to Scottish parents. He was a scottish writer and BBC radio producer. As an undergraduate he studied Modern History at Lincoln College, Oxford. In 1953-4 he was seconded to UNESCO to produce radio programs in France, Liberia and Turkey. His often autobiographical books include Woodbrook and Nairn in Darkness and Light.
