Jean de La Fontaine was born in Château-Thierry, Champagne, France. He was a famous French fabulist and one of the most widely read French poets of the 17th century. He is known above all for his Fables, which provided a model for subsequent fabulists across Europe and numerous alternative versions in France, and in French regional languages. He was educated at the collège of Château-Thierry. He wrote several books include: Contes et nouvelles en vers (Ribaldry), La Fontaine's Fables (play), The Ant and the Grasshopper, The Wolf and the Lamb (Fable), The Heron and the Fish (Fable), The Fox and the Billy Goat (Fable), The Fox and the Stork (Fable), The Two Pots (Fable), The Animals Stricken with The Plague, The Eagle and the Beetle (Fable), and The Eagle Wounded by an Arrow.
