Dr. John Rae was a British educator, author and novelist. He was headmaster of Taunton School and then Head Master of Westminster School. He earned an MA degree from Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. He received his PhD from King's College London. In 1986 he was head of the Laura Ashley Foundation and was on the Board of The Observer newspaper from 1986 to 1993. In 1989 he was executive chairman of the Portman Group. He wrote several books include: Letters from School, The Public School Revolution, Delusions of Grandeur (autobiography), The Custard Boys (novel), and The Old Boys' Network (autobiography).
