Charles Harpur was born in Windsor, New South Wales. He was an Australian poet. He received his elementary education in Windsor. He published his first poem The Wreck on 20 December 1833, in the Australian, at age 20. Two verse pamphlets, A Poet's Home and The Tower of a Dream, appeared in 1862 and 1865 respectively. He is little read today and the tendency has been to under-rate him in comparison with other writers of the nineteenth century. He is represented in several Australian anthologies.
