Sir Henry Channon, often known as Chips Channon was born in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He was an American-born British Conservative politician, author and diarist. He was first elected as a Member of Parliament for Southend in 1935. He is remembered as one of the most famous political and social diarists of the 20th century. He wrote several books include: 'Chips': the diaries of Sir Henry Channon, Joan Kennedy(novel), Paradise City(novel), and The Ludwigs of Bavaria.
