Hattie Ophelia Wyatt Caraway was born in Bakerville, Tennessee, USA. She was an American politician. She was the first woman elected to serve a full term as a United States Senator from Arkansas. She served from 1931 to 1945 and was a strong supporter of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's economic recovery legislation during the Great Depression. She was the first woman to preside over the Senate. In 1896, she received her B.A. degree from Dickson Normal College, Dickson, Tennessee.
