George Granville Barker was born in Loughton, Essex, England. He was an English poet, identified with the New Apocalyptics movement, which reacted against 1930’s realism with mythical and surrealistic themes. He taught English literature in Japan, United States, and England from 1939 to 1974. He wrote several books include: Thirty Preliminary Poems, Calamiterror, Eros in Dogma, The True Confession of George Barker, The View from a Blind I, At Thurgarton Church, Villa Stellar, and Anno Domini. He wrote two novels include: Alanna Autumnal and The Dead Seagull.
