John Francis "Jack" Welch, Jr. was born in Peabody, Massachusetts, USA. He is an American businessman and chemical engineer. He was chairman and CEO of General Electric between 1981 and 2001. In 2006, Welch's net worth was estimated at $720 million. He earned a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1957. He earned an MS degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1958. He earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1960. He has written several books include: Jack: Straight from the Gut(with John A. Byrne), Winning(with Suzy Welch), and Winning: The Answers(with Suzy Welch).
