Captain Donald Edward Williams was born in Lafayette, Indiana. He is a retired United States Navy officer and a former NASA astronaut. He has logged a total of 287 hours and 35 minutes in space. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1964. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland, in June 1974.
