Gloria Naylor was born in New York City, New York, USA. She is an American novelist. She earned her bachelor's degree in English at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York in 1981. She obtained a master's degree in African American Studies from Yale University in 1983. During her career as a professor, she taught writing and literature at several universities, including George Washington University, New York University, Boston University, and Cornell University. She has written several novels include: The Women of Brewster Place(won National Book Award for First Novel), Linden Hills, Mama Day, Bailey's Cafe, and The Men of Brewster Place(won American Book Awards).
