David Lemuel Keith was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. He is an American actor, composer and film director. He received Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actor and New Star of the Year – Actor for his performance in An Officer and a Gentleman. His performance led him to a lead role status in the 1980s appearing the film adaptations of The Lords of Discipline, Firestarter and White of the Eye. He had an early supporting role in the prison film Brubaker. He played Elvis Presley in the 1988 film Heartbreak Hotel. He directed The Curse and The Further Adventures of Tennessee Buck.
