John Cornyn III was born in Houston, Texas, USA. He is an American Republican politician and lawyer serving as the senior United States Senator from Texas since 2002. He is the current Senate Majority Whip for the 115th Congress. He also served as Chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, and Senate Minority Whip. He earned a BA degree in Journalism from Trinity University, Texas in 1973. He earned a JD degree from St. Mary's University School of Law, Texas in 1977. He earned an LLM degree from the University of Virginia in 1995. He served as a Judge of the Texas 37th Judicial District Court, Associate Justice of the Texas Supreme Court from 1990-1997, and 49th Attorney General of Texas from 1999-2002. He married Sandy Hansen in 1979. They have two daughters, Danley and Haley.
