Jonas Ferdinand Gabriel Lippmann was born in Bonnevoie, Luxembourg City, Luxembourg. He was a French physicist and inventor, and Nobel laureate in physics for his method of reproducing colours photographically based on the phenomenon of interference. He received a doctorate with "summa cum laude" distinction in 1874. He was a professor of physics at the Sorbonne.
